Local Government in Hexham is in three parts, the Town, the District and the County. The three Local Authorities that provide Local Government for these three areas are:

Hexham Town Council
Tynedale District Council
Northumberland [County] Council

In Hexham itself, Hexham Town Council is the lowest tier of Local Government. Because it is the lowest level, it is also the one nearest to the electorate and so its Councilor's are closer to those who are affected by Local Government decisions. For that reason, even though the Town Council itself may not make the final decision, it is consulted on many proposals and its views
are taken into account before any decision is taken by the County or District Councils.

In Hexham town, the Town Council is responsible for the local Cemetery and for two allotment sites. It has also been the lead body in a number of
